Here’s our guide to the best live music playing in Beijing this week.
June 1-2: Barry “Scratchy” Myers
Barry “Scratchy” Meyers has had a pretty amazing career. The British punk and reggae DJ has opened for some of rock ‘n’ roll’s best – the Ramones , The Cramps , Blondie and Iggy Pop. He even had a two-year gig with The Clash. So the fact that he’s performing for two days at Hot Cat Club in Beijing this week is exciting! Expect to hear some reggae and ska on Wednesday (tonight) and rock ‘n’ roll on Thursday.
Wed-Thurs June 1-2, 9pm-midnight; Two-day pass 80 RMB; 60RMB (presale). One-day pass 60RMB; 40 RMB (presale), Hot Cat Club, see event listing for details.
June 3: Macondo @DDC
Macondo is pure fusion. The band is made up of musicians hailing from the US, the UK, South Africa and China. And their music is as eclectic as its members. They’ve described their sound as “volcano rock,” an amalgamation of math-core, electronica and 70s psychedelia. The Beijing-based band will be performing at DDC on Friday.
Fri June 3, 9pm-11.30pm; Two-day pass 80 RMB; RMB60 (door)/RMB50 (presale), DDC, see event listing for details.
June 3: Adventure of Wooden Flute Boy – Flautando Koln Recorder Quartet
One of Europe's most celebrated woodwind quartets – and yes, they are all women – is headed to Beijing on Friday. For tickets click here. Or call their booking hotline at 400-610-3721 or 10103721, or email ponypiao@damai.cn.

June 3: Wouter Hamel
Netherlands-native Wouter Hamel first appeared on the music scene back in 2007. Nearly 10 years later and he’s successfully made a name for himself in countries around the world. The pop-jazz musician has toured around Japan and South Korea. He is currently touring around China and will be stopping off at Yugong Yishan this Friday.
Fri June 3, 9-11pm; RMB180 (door)/RMB120 (presale), Yugong Yishan, see event listing for details.
June 7: Blessthefall
The American metalcore band Blessthefall is heading to China for the first time ever. More specifically, they’ll be performing at Yugong Yishan on Tuesday, June 7. The band released their fifth album, To Those Left Behind, in 2015 and spent a chunk of the year performing on the Main Stage of the Vans Warped Tour. Suffice it to say, things are about to get loud in Beijing.
Tues June 7, 8pm-11.30pm; RMB260RMB (door)/RMB180 (presale); Yugong Yishan, see event listing for details.
