Xi Jinping tells countrymen to 'eat less instant noodles' when abroad

Rounding up his state visit to the Maldives, Chinese president Xi Jinping was meeting with the PRC ambassador to Male Wang Fukang and a group of Chinese businessmen when he observed:

We should educate our citizens to be civilized abroad: don't litter plastic bottles; don't destroy coral reefs; eat less instant noodles and have more local seafood.

The president's contribution was, reportedly, meet with thunderous applause.

Last year, there was some controversy when it was reported that several luxury resorts in the Maldives had begun removing kettles from guests' rooms after Chinese tourists kept dining in on cup noodles they'd brought instead of consuming the local fare. Netizens even threatened to boycott the Maldives, incensed by entirely unconfirmed rumors that they were specifically targeting rooms occupied by Chinese guests for the kettle-crackdown.
