Elderly woman pretends to have been hit by stationary bus

A video of an elderly woman pretending to have been knocked down by a stationary bus in Shanxi province has gone viral after it was posted online this week.

The mobile phone footage recorded by a passerby initially shows the woman lying down on the ground asking for help, an act she quickly abandons when she realises no one gives a shit.

Catching sight of an oncoming bus, the opportunistic woman very slowly jogs to the middle of the road as the vehicle grinds to a halt. She then tries to crawl under the completely unmoving bus, and commits to her con even when the impatient bus driver tries to pull her up.

Although passersby urge the driver to contact police, he smoothly chooses to just get back to his job and boards the bus.

The incident, along with several others in recent years, has prompted commentators to query the morals of China's older generation.

The LA Times recently ran a piece noting the numerous reports that bystanders are unlikely to help 'distressed' senior citizens in case they may be implicated and subsequently extorted.
