Doctors in Yinchang city, Hubei province have removed a one metre (3.2ft) long skipping rope from the urethra of a middle aged man after he inserted it for sexual pleasure, a local newspaper reported.
A urologist, surnamed Dong, said the surgery was complicated by the fact that the green plastic rope had knotted. Although the rope was just over one metre in length, it was only 4.4mm (0.1in) thick, Dong told the Sanxia Business Daily, adding that the man was “ridiculous” for putting his life at risk in this way.
The unnamed patient in his forties turned to doctors after he could not pull out the skipping rope himself, leading to painful and difficult urination. An x-ray showed four knots stuck in the narrowest part of his urethra, with 10cm of rope dangling out of his urethral opening.
Hospital staff resorted to surgery because pulling out the rope forcefully would have led to serious bleeding and infection, a doctor named Zhang told reporters.
Surgical removes are not uncommon in China. Recently, a knife, a bullet, a whistle and a screw have been removed from patients bodies. Unlike the man with the skipping rope, none of those insertions were intentional.
