This morning, a freight truck caused massive delays along one of Guangzhou’s central roads.
The truck driver was cruising along Huanshi Dong Lu, a major road that runs through the Xiaobei, Taojin and Ouzhuang neighborhoods, when he or she realized that the truck’s height was taller than the upcoming overpass. What followed was an unsuccessful maneuver in which the driver tried to make a U-turn along the four-lane road. Ultimately, the large vehicle ended up jammed between the road’s outer barriers, leaving traffic from both directions at a standstill.
The incident occurred under the Huanshi Dong Lu Ouzhuang overpass. Although the exact time isn’t clear, FM974 Zhujiang Economics Radio Station reported the illegal U-turn took place around 8.20am.
According to GRT Radio, the driver attributed the fiasco to a lost GPS signal, which should alert truck drivers when their vehicle height exceeds the maximum height for an upcoming underpass.
