At roughly 12.45pm on February 1, a 6-month-old baby boy was discovered alone at Linhexi Metro Station, according to the Guangzhou Metro.
The infant was found sleeping in a red baby carriage, accompanied by three bags containing baby clothes, diapers, milk powder and baby food. No identification information was left with the youngster.
Two police officers responded to the scene after being alerted by metro staff. One officer was responsible for taking care of the infant and notifying the nearest orphanage, while the other examined video footage from the station in an attempt to find the individual who abandoned the baby, according to Tencent News.
After reviewing video captured by CCTV cameras inside the station, police singled out a male wearing a black cap, face mask and carrying a black shoulder bag as the one who abandoned the tot around 10.30am that morning. He allegedly entered the station through Exit C with the baby carriage.
The MTR Corporation is calling on the infant’s family to contact public security authorities as soon as possible. So far, however, no one has come forward to claim the child, who is currently receiving care at the Children’s Welfare Institute of Guangzhou.
In light of the incident, officials are reminding parents that deliberately abandoning your child is illegal and a criminal act in China.
