Beijing to Cut Down on Fireworks Sales During Spring Festival

There might not be quite as many fireworks during this Spring Festival as in years past – and depending on your affinity for those loud little suckers that might be a good thing. In an effort to cut down on noise and air pollution, Beijing authorities announced yesterday that the number of outlets selling fireworks during the holiday (January 28) will be limited.

Fireworks will be available for purchase in 511 outlets. It might seem like a lot but that number is down by 28.9 percent compared to last year. All of these venues are located outside of the Third Ring Road, which basically means that the sale of fireworks is banned downtown. 

Fireworks are permitted to be sold from January 22 to February 1. However, sales and deliveries will be ordered to stop if the capital is under either an orange or red alert.
