Amazon Prime has come to China.

The American e-Commerce giant announced last Friday the launch of Amazon Prime China, a version of the service tailored to Chinese customers. The shipping service will cost RMB388 (USD57) per year.

Unlike the standard service, Amazon Prime China is focused soley on shipping. The service does not include digital content (music and video streaming) or any of the additional benefits that come with the USD99 per year membership in the US.

Instead, it will focus on its shipping offerings, particularly for overseas products given their huge demand in the Mainland. Amazon said it's the "first ever membership program offering unlimited free cross-border shipping" for products from the Amazon Global Store.

Products from the Amazon Global store will reach Prime customers in 82 Chinese cities within five to nine days. Meanwhile, the minimum purchase for free cross-border shipping will amount to RMB200 (USD29). Free domestic shipping will have no minimum purchase.

Amazon faces stiff competition from homegrown e-Commerce giants like Alibaba (Taobao and T-Mall) and JD.com.
