A woman is dead and 12 others are injured after a knife attack in Shenzhen on Saturday. The incident occurred at an unspecified city market.

According to police all those injured are in stable condition in hospital.

The attacker was a 32-year-old man and his actions were allegedly provoked by a marital dispute, according to the Southern Metropolitan Daily.

The violence is the latest in a string of attacks, in the Pearl River Delta, over the past six months.

Knife-wielding men wrecking havoc on unsuspecting citizens has unnerved the region and nation as a whole over the past few years.

The Chinese public has become increasingly sensitive to knife attacks after a series of incidents, including a mass stabbing at a Kunming train station in March 2014 and a knife attack that left nine injured at a Guangzhou train station in March this year.

Authorities credited both those attacks to Xinjiang separatist militants.
