Town Crier! Monkey Kingz prankster jailed after subway zombie stunt

Town Crier! is random snippets of Shanghai news that just may have an effect on your life...

Last week, Shanghai-based pranksters Monkey Kingz were feeling the Halloween spirit and decided to scare some subway passengers with a bloodied zombie costume (video here). It was all in good fun, we're sure, but fellow metro riders didn't think so, and the group has now run into some issues with the law.

The Shanghai Daily reported this morning that the zombie costume caused "mayhem" aboard the train, and that "several [people] called the police."

The cops treated this one pretty seriously: an anonymous source told That's Shanghai the prankster "was sent to jail for 5 days [after] the police came to [his] office." We haven't been able to get independent confirmation on the length of the man's sentence.

When the Monkey Kingz originally posted their video, the description read: "Maybe it's the Ebola pandemic that's got people on the edge, or perhaps Chinese people think zombies are real. Either way, things escalate..." That note has turned out to be prescient, as things certainly have escalated now.

We hope that this doesn't spell the end for the Monkey Kingz, as some of their previous videos (see: Farting About, Invisible Glass, etc.) were hilarious, and we'd like to say that this legal kerfuffle is just a huge misunderstanding.

Maybe just don't make people think you're going to spread ebola, guys.
