Consorzio di Tutela del Prosecco DOC
At the heart of this event is the Consorzio di Tutela del Prosecco DOC, the official body dedicated to protecting and promoting the Prosecco DOC designation.
Founded in 2009, the Consortium ensures that every bottle of Prosecco DOC meets the highest standards of quality, tradition, and authenticity.
Guardians of Italian Excellence
Prosecco DOC traces its roots back to the 13th century, with its name derived from the village of Prosecco near Trieste.
However, it wasn’t until the 19th century that the wine gained its signature effervescence, thanks to the innovations of Antonio Carpenè at the Conegliano Oenological School.
Today, Prosecco DOC is produced across five provinces of Veneto and four of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, with over 28,000 hectares of vineyards and a production that in 2024 reached 660 million bottles.
Protecting the Brand
The Consortium enforces strict regulations to safeguard Prosecco DOC’s integrity:
Only wines produced in designated regions can bear the Prosecco DOC label.
Each bottle features a state-issued seal to guarantee authenticity.
The wine must be served in proper sparkling wine glasses—never flutes or informal containers
Beyond production, the Consortium actively promotes Prosecco DOC as a symbol of Italian lifestyle, conviviality, and craftsmanship, making it the most exported PDO sparkling wine in the world.
