That's Shanghai Halloween Party @ Xouk

Spooky music. Spine-chilling decor. Creepy drinks. Awesome prizes on offer for the best dressed. It’s that time of year for ghoulish get-ups, and we couldn’t be more excited!

Once again, That’s Shanghai is hosting a hell of a bash, as we join forces with Xouk in Sinar Mas Plaza on Saturday, October 29.

Pre-order tickets are:

Each ticket includes entry to all of the above freaky fun and five F&B tickets, which can be exchanged for mixed drinks, beer, soft drinks and food.

Last year, people rocked up in full costume, dancing on tables well into the wee hours of the morning to old school hip hop and classic tunes from throughout the decades, from the 80s all the way to 2020.

This week's themed quiz at The Camel is as spooky as they come with a We Love Halloween Quiz!

Halloween Rocks @ The Pearl

A two night Monster Bash at The Pearl sees it decked out with jack-o-lanterns, ghosts, vampires, zombies and fake blood galore. There are prizes for the best costumes, with face painting provided should you need a last minute touch up.

There will, of course, be a whole host of breathtaking performances showcasing humor, sexiness, aerial acts, fire displays and some unique surprises that have been in the works for months, as well as The Pearl's Red Stars band pumping out the hits and DJ Michele Grant spinning the wheels of steel.

Dia de los Muertos @ 889 Plaza

Celebrate the Mexican Dia de los Muertos – Day of the Dead – on October 29, with a three meter high Catrina, and seven human size Catrinas, being installed in the main entrance of 889 Plaza.

Starting at 9.30am, the event will feature different Halloween crafty activities, traditional Mexican dance by The Colors of Mexico dancing company, face painting by Jessie and delicious pan de muerto and hot chocolate by La Coyota!

Tickets are RMB68 early bird (before October 26), and RMB88 after, which includes pumpkin painting from 1.30-4.30om, access to the dance show, a photo opportunity with the Catrinas, face painting and a box woth candies for the children.

War of the Worlds @ Inferno

On the night of October 30, 1938, Orson Welles and his Mercury Theater On The Air invaded the airwaves with a tale of paranoia, violence and existential dread that captivated audiences like few other broadcasts in American media history.

It told a tale from the previous century, HG Wells's War of the Worlds, but cleverly adapted its setting and story to fit the contemporaneous audience.

It's aided by the voice work of Welles himself (two years before he became the filmmaker of Citizen Kane and other classics) as well as music from Bernard Herrmann (future composer of similarly classic themes for Psycho and The Twilight Zone), and perhaps especially by an audience on edge from being in an unsettling time.

Eighty-four years to the date, and with all three of those elements just as alive today as ever, this Sunday, October 30 at Shanghai metal bar Inferno, TouJAM presents a listening party of this audio drama.

Beyond that, host DJ BO will present a brief talk about the project, and – for the first time ever – present live a Chinese script adaptation and sample of a recording of the work into Mandarin Chinese.

The original, of course, reportedly lead to listeners to run into the streets, panicked beyond belief. Will it still have the same effect? Find out yourself, this Sunday, Halloween eve, at Inferno.
