That's Shanghai Sports Awards Nominees: International Performance

Once a year, we gather to recognize those who have truly made their mark on the city’s sports scene: from the home-run hitters and KO punchers to those who lift up their mates when all seems lost. They’re our friends, our family and, occasionally, our blood-thirsty rivals.

This year, the F45 & That’s Shanghai Sports Awards will take place at The Camel on February 8, with people's choice voting opening January 11.

After the last couple of years' fundraising heroics, we will be also recognizing the sports team that raises the most money for charity over the course of the awards. Oh, and there will be a raffle fundraiser on the night, with all money raised going to the Baobei Foundation

And now, without further ado, here are the nominations for International Performance:

Sea Dragons - Water Polo

Sea Dragons
The Shanghai Sea Dragons International Water Polo Club has been in existence for over ten years and comprises over twenty nationalities with experience ranging from beginners to former Olympians. They play both regulation and “beach” formats in tournaments we host here in Shanghai to regional competitions with international teams.  Over the years they have participated in tournaments in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and the Philippines, with plans to travel to Europe and the United States in the future. This past year they won the Panasonic Cup in the Fourth Annual Hong Kong Beach Water Polo Tournament and Silver and Bronze medals in the Fourth Annual Beach Water Polo Tournament.

Silver Dragons - SRFC (Rugby)

Shanghai Rugby Football Club
SRFC Silver Dragon’s achieved what no other mainland Chinese team has: winning Hong Kong 10’s silverware. This incredible victory highlights the strength, dedication and passion of the team to succeed. Despite the Silver Dragons being an amateur team, they were up against professional players and some of the world’s best ex-international players who compete in this prestigious tournament year on year. The Silver Dragons fought against the odds to come out victorious in what was a thrilling bowl final to beat the Chinese national team.

Shanghai Tinderwolves – Shanghai Hockey Club

Tinderwolves
For the second year in a row, the nine-player squad named the Shanghai Tinderwolves loaded up onto a Gaotie for the boozy trip to Beijing’s annual Houhai Lake three-on-three pond hockey tournament. And for the second year in a row, Shanghai’s premiere traveling ice hockey team lit it up for a near perfect record. Strong play by team vets, Brad ‘Nuli’ Newell, Jan ‘The Deker from Srebrenica’ Velich, Cole ‘Pitter’ Paterson, J.P. ‘The Poutine Curd’ Grimard, and Mark ‘The Dude’ Simon cemented yet another victory in what is hands down the most competitive, yet fun hockey tournament going in China.

Team World – Shanghai Hockey Club

Team World
Team World, a ragtag squad of ice hockey beauties brought together by Team Captain and fourth Chair piccolo soloist, Hans von Meister, faced off against the all-Chinese Team Shanghai in what was touted to be a rematch for the ages. After Team Shanghai thoroughly embarrassed the squad of Westerners in 2016, the fellas who organized the 2017 squad decided to bring in some fresh Swedish faces, not to mention a coach! By the time the puck dropped the few thousand Chinese fans in attendance couldn’t believe the 9-3 drubbing the home team faced at the hands of the surprisingly well-disciplined Team World.
