One of Shanghai's longest running traditions, Bubba's Annual Chili Cookoff, returns for a glorious 12th installment. This year's competition, which sees teams of professional chefs and independent cooks creating chili recipes to woo both judges and guests, will be undergoing something of a renaissance thanks to a new location at enormous bar and indoor sports center, Cages.
This guarantees a zero percent chance of the rain that has beset previous outdoor-held competitons – because nobody likes a watery chili.
There will also be more teams (15+) and more 'specials.' By specials they mean cheap drinks: RMB25 pints of Budweiser, Goose Island and Sierra Tequila. Presale tickets are RMB100 per person, and include unlimited chili tastings from the competing teams, a Budweiser pint, and the all-important People's Choice ticket. The latter allows you to have your say which team clinches the numero uno spot.
