They've been telling us for months that Metro hours will be extended.

Looks like the time has finally arrived.

Just announced this morning, Lines 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 10 wll stay open an additional 70-80 minutes on Friday and Saturday nights, as well as the night before national holidays.

Lines 16 will also have extended hours, an additional 25-30 minutes from Sunday through Thursday. While Line 10 will also see extended hours, 25 minutes extra Sunday through Thursday, and for Friday, Saturday and nights before major holidays, the hours between Xinjiangwancheng to Hongqiao Railway Station will extend by a further 80 minutes.

Those traveling to Pudong via Metro however take note, Line 2's extended 70 minutes doesn't include the Guanglan Road to Pudong airport section.

The stations in Shanghai's downtown area will be open until midnight over the weekends for the extended serviced lines.

Bus routes near the stations will also stay open later to assist with the Metro changes.
