UPDATE: Due to weather concerns, this event has been postponed and rescheduled to July 13 at Baoism's store in Hubindao. The competing chefs will be Alex Xu and Simon Sunwoo of Liquid Laundry

Y'all love baos in Shanghai, but which are the best? That's exactly what we'll find out on June 25, when Baoism's young gun chef Alex Xu goes head-to-head against Goga's legendary chef-owner Brad Turley in the city's first 'Battle of the Baos.'

From 11am-3pm, the two chefs will duke it out at a rooftop party on the terrace of Hai by Goga (pictured below) in the former French Concession. Tickets are RMB200 per person (buy them online here), which clinches you one bao and one side dish from each chef (so two baos and two sides), plus one soft drink or boozy beverage courtesy of Jameson whisky

Baoism honcho Alex Xu tells us in no uncertain terms they're bringing their full game to match the indomitable Chef Turley. "We're making a special bespoke bao and side dish, busting out a spin on a Chinatown favorite: smoked kung pao beef rib bao topped with red cabbage and green apple slaw."

And what of the sides? "Knife-cut noodles in our take on the Beijing favorite, zha jiang mian. We'll be topping it with shredded cucumber, carrot, watermelon radish, crispy chickpeas and of course, an onsen egg."

#TeamTurley or #TeamXu: which side will be you be on?

From 11am-3pm, June 25, Hai by Goga. Tickets available via Yoopay, BonApp, or in person from Baoism and Hai by Goga.
