A recurring look at what's happening at Shanghai's art galleries:
1. Xuzhen Supermarket
Since its initial launch in 2007, this critically acclaimed art project from Shanghai bad boy artist Xu Zhen has wowed crowds around the world. Seeminly a typical Chinese convenience store, XuZhen Supermarket sets up shop on Yuyuan Lu. However, while products are on sale, there’s actually no content at all, accentuating the point of emptiness of commercialism.

5. Extravagant Imagination, the Wonder of Idleness
Speaking of Xu Zhen, his always fascinating MadeIn Gallery hosts this group exhibition featuring Wang Newone, Shi Jiayun (see above), Li Weiyi, Shen Xi, Wang Rui, Zhang Jiaxing and Tant Zhong. The Lu Mingjun curated show explores the globalization of contemporary art across multiple mediums examining whether this trend is loosening the connection between the artist and their local experience.
