Nov 9: Jason Atherton’s Cooking Class

The celebrity chef is in town and is ready to divulge some culinary tips. He’ll be teaching how to cook a Table No. 1 set-lunch followed by a three-course lunch.

Nov 9-13: Third Annual Spanish Food Week

There’s only a few more days to eat your way through this festival that features 21 participating Spanish restaurants, including el Willy, How Fun and Las Tapas. There’s 42 specially crafted set menus with dishes starting at RMB45 up to dinner for two for RMB218.

Nov 10: The Day of the Wacko

201511/dayofthewacko.jpgCraft Kino Club presents the latest in their Polish series of films. Directed by Marek Koterski, The Day of the Wacko follows a sad-sack neurotic trying to deal with the day-to-day stress of academic life. English subtitles with buy-one-get-one-free drink deals all night.

Nov 10: The River’s Edge

Subculture Cinema screens the dark teen drama that won Best Picture at the 1986 Independent Spirit Awards. The cast features Back to the Future’s Crispin Glover, Say Anything’s Ione Syke, a young Keanu Reeves and Dennis Hopper.

Nov 10-12: Taylor Swift

Last summer, T-Swizzle made her Shanghai debut on one of the last dates of her Red tour. So much has changed since her last visit. She's pretty much the biggest artist in the world right now, thanks to her much acclaimed and top-selling "pop" debut, 1989.

Nov 10-15: BMW Masters

201510/wuashun.jpgHomegrown stars Wu Ashun and Li Haotong will attempt to be the first local players to capture this prestigious title (and its USD7 million purse). However, they have to overcome a crowded field that includes defending champion Marcel Siem, former US Open winner Graeme McDowell, the people's champion Ian Poulter and 24-year-old prodigy Patrick Reed, who is one of five players to capture three PGA titles at such a young age. Last year's tournament attracted a record 48,000 spectators.

Nov 11: The Dating Monologues
201511/singlesday.jpgLadyfest Shanghai is bringing to life some of your craziest dating stories. Anyone is welcome to submit anonymous submissions by November 4. Stories will then be read or performed by the improv group People’s Republic of Comedy on China’s Singles Day.

Nov 11: Magical Smile Night

Founded by Austrian singer-songwriter Franz Eppensteiner, EPPI is a platform where music, art and social commitment come together. This party launches the charity project ‘I just wanna see you smile,’ which raises money to provide children with cleft lip and/or palate surgery. 167 T-shirts sold will provide enough funds for one child. Find out more about the initiative and enjoy an eclectic of night of entertainment that features live music, dancers and a magician.

Nov 11-29: Nanta

Three cooks are on the clock to finish preparing a wedding banquet when the manager installs his incompetent nephew in the team. What follows is a mix of acrobatics, magic tricks, comedy, pantomime and audience participation set to traditional Korean samul nori music. Mostly non-verbal, the show is becoming a worldwide hit with over 9 million attendees and high profile runs on Broadway, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Macau’s Sands Theatre.

Nov 12: Bistro Burger Belt-Buster Challenge
201510/bistroburger.jpgThe co-winners of the That’s Shanghai Food & Drink Award for Best Burger are celebrating their sixth anniversary with this first annual competition. Sign up for this burger buffet challenge. The top six eaters will qualify for the final with a prize of one year of free burgers on the line. All drinks will be RMB38.

Nov 12: The History of Chicago House according to Traxman

Get ready for a four-hour history lesson on Chicago dance music with the footwork favorite. Traxman is a modern icon who co-founded of the Geto DJz clique and is a member of DJ Rashad and DJ Spinn’s Ghetto Teknitianz crew.

Nov 13: SPECTRE

Directed by Sam Mendes (Skyfall), the film explores the secret agent’s first encounter with the titular criminal agency. Nov 13: Biondi Santi Wine Dinner

Mr. Tancredi Biondi Santi will introduce a range of his family’s fantastic Tuscan wines that will be paired with refined cuisine courtesy of 8 1/2 Otto e Mezzo Bombana’s Chef La Perna. A limited quantity of vintages from 1955-1995 will be available for purchase.

Nov 13: Sin City at Sasha’s

Urban Aphrodite hosts this casino-themed night at the historic Sasha’s building featuring Monte Carlo table games and a cabaret show complete with pole dancers and lounge singers. Dress code: black tie and reservations must be made in advance at tickets@urbanaphrodite.nl.

Nov 13-14: Fragile

Since stunning judges on So You Think You Can Dance China, Duang Jingting has been building up a name for her homegrown contemporary dance company D.LAB. Three years since their debut, they move to their biggest stage yet, premiering their newest show Fragile at Shanghai Grand Theatre.

Nov 13-14: Kung Fu Komedy Club opening

The stand-up staples have a new space below Kartel and they're opening it up in grand style. Check out a showcase from the crew's members on Friday. On Saturday, beloved Canadian comedian Dashan shows off his chops with an all-Mandarin set.

Nov 13-15: Shanghai International Children’s Book Festival

Top-selling English language titles like The Magic School Bus and Goosebumps will be available, while publishers will be showcasing the future of the industry with picture books containing 3D pages and other digital content. There’s material available for the very young (My First Discovery) up to teens (the Twilight series).

Nov 13-15: Shanghai 48 Hour Film Project

Drop off films by Sunday and watch this year's best from Nov 21-22 at Central Studios. Contest registration is still open. Nov 14: Pac-12 China Game 

201510/pac12.jpgThe NCAA takes over the Mercedes-Benz Arena to host its first ever regular season game played in China. The historic matchup pits the Washington Huskies against the Texas Longhorns. One of the most consistent teams in recent years, Texas has made an appearance in 23 of the last 26 NCAA tournaments, producing current NBA All-Stars Kevin Durant (pictured above) and LaMarcus Aldridge. They will battle against the always pesky Washington Huskies that have produced fiery little point guards like current NBA stars Isiah Thomas and Nate Robinson.

Nov 14: SEE (Social Enterprise and Entrepreneurs) Marketplace

This monthly marketplace provides a platform for the city’s finest social enterprises and local entrepreneurs. Discover how you can help such do-gooders as Shanghai Young Bakers, Chi Heng Foundation, Shanghai Baby’s Home and more. Also pick up handmade goods from local start-ups and munch on delicious snacks served by the likes of Happy Mum’s Creation.

Nov 14: Chi Fan for Charity

Chi Fan for Charity (CFFC) will look to top last year’s massive success when 58 restaurants participated to raise over RMB300,000 for local charities. This year, confirmed restaurants include NAPA Wine Bar and Kitchen, M on the Bund, The Commune Social, el Willy and other foodie favorites. Each restaurant will donate a table of 10 and guests pay a set price covering a three-course meal, beverage pairings and entrance to the ultra-fun after party. Nov 14: The Katy Perry Experience

While Groove Entertainment’s Tassel and Tease show has been delayed until January due to injury, The Pearl has capably rebounded with a tribute concert to the colorful singer. Kristina Loack, aka. Groovy Unicorn will play all of the Katy classics from ‘I Kissed a Girl’ to ‘Roar.’

Nov 14: Nakoma

The Beijing-based trio has made a major mark on the music scene with their furious self-titled debut. They'll be bringing their noisy instrumentals across the nation with a Shanghai gig at On Stage.

Nov 14: Asia Vibes 4th Anniversary

She’ll be making the trip from her current base in Berlin, bringing her elegant mix of deep house and techno. Local favorites DJ Doggy, Max Shen and Yoshinaga will support, with VJ Keefer providing visuals.

Nov 15: DâM-FunK
201510/Nov15-DamFunk.jpgA certified funk legend makes his return to The Shelter after six years. Since cutting his teeth as an in-demand musician in the early-90’s West Coast G-funk scene, DâM-FunK has been recruited by rappers like Snoop Dogg, Q-Tip and MC Eiht. He’s connected to a new generation of partiers thanks to recent releases on the celebrated Stones Throw label. Santo Chino and others will guest, with tickets limited to strictly 400.

Nov 15-Jan 17: War Horse

Since its 2007 premiere at London’s National Theatre, War Horse has become one of the world’s most celebrated plays. Productions have picked up Laurence Olivier Awards, swept the 2011 Tony Awards and inspired a hit 2011 film helmed by the legendary Steven Spielberg. Years in the making, the National Theatre Company of China debuted a Mandarin version in Beijing for a months-long run. The show continues its national tour, making its Shanghai debut and taking over Shanghai Culture Square until mid-January.
