Apparently International Museum Day is a thing.
And apparently that means free admission at over 100 Shanghai museums tomorrow (May 18) in celebration of the big day. Yipee!
This week seems like a good time to visit museums, as a bunch of different attractions around the city are also offering discounted or free entry on Friday, May 19 in celebration of National Tourism Day.
Among some of the participating musuems for Thursday's promotion include Shanghai Auto Museum, Shanghai Museum of Glass and China Maritime Museum, along with at least 101 others.
Other museums will be offering half-price entry tomorrow, including the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, Natural History Museum, Cinema Museum and Guanfu Museum.
Reservations will be required at some spots, such as the newly opened Shanghai World Expo Musueum and the aforementioned Auto Museum. Caps will be placed on visitors at other museums, including the Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum, which will hold 600 visitors maximum in the morning and 1,000 in the afternoon.
Additionally, up to 40 museums will extend hours until 9pm, and "fast track" lanes will be open to senior citizens.
Ahead of the upcoming Children's Day celebrations on June 1, some spots will be holding special activities for kids. Head over to the Insect Museum with your kids to see a temporary exhibit featuring over 200 different kinds of butterflies from around the world.
