Beijing’s Palace Museum has long been the top tourist draw in China. Well, it appears there is now fierce competition. In case you somehow missed it, the Shanghai Disney Resort opened its gates last week. And the number of visitors has been astronomical, causing many to predict that the resort will attract more annual visitors than the capital’s popular Palace Museum, Business Standard reports.

The Palace Museum received 15 million tourists in 2015. According to a report issued by online travel agency Ctrip, it is estimated that Shanghai Disney will see a minimum of 15 million visitors in one year’s time – that’s 40,000 people a day.

Ctrip also reported that 30 percent of current visitors are parents with children. However, this number is estimated to rise during summer months when more parents will have the chance to visit while on vacation. The report also predicts that Disneyland will see its largest number of guests during the first 10 days of the park’s official opening, which is set to occur in early July.

According to Ctrip, Shanghai Disney will likely see 7.3 million guests by the end of 2016. Only time will tell if the resort breaks the 15-million mark by next June.
