SHFT. presents Grandtheft (Mad Decent) @ 8MM

Grandtheft is known infamously in China for headlining Shanghai’s 2014 Storm Festival second stage, and literally stealing half the crowd away from Kesha’s Main Stage performance with his face melting 808 bass and trap sounds. Many have crowned him king of Storm 2014. Grandtheft is a real turntablist, a versatile producer and a crowd smashing performer.

Establishing a custom club sound by playing largely his own originals, remixes and video edits, Grandtheft has slayed clubs worldwide and is respected as one of the best live DJs from Canada. He has been booked to support huge acts such as U2, Arcade Fire, BEP and 150+ and was the official DJ of the Canadian 2010 Olympics.

Grandtheft's productions have garnered heavy support from the likes of Diplo, Major Lazer, A-Trak, Nadastrom, Jazzy Jeff, Flosstradamus, Skream, Digitalism, Sub Focus, Borgore, Just Blaze, Craze and BBC Radio One debuts from Annie Mac, Mista Jam and Kissy Sellout.

Friday: The Antidote & pangbianr presents Tzusing (L.I.E.S. Records) @ Dada

Antidote and pangbianr collaborate to host Shanghai-based DJ and producer Tzusing, fresh off the release of his second 12" for underground-heavy Brooklyn label L.I.E.S. These two EPs (A Name Out of Place Pts. 1 & 2) offer eight tracks of dark, abrasive, metallic techno that will make you feel kind of funny at that joint where your skull meets the top of your spine. Tzusing — brains behind semi-regular cold vibes showcase Stockholm Syndrome — will bring his singular post-apocalyptic dancefloor vision to Beijing, freezing us over for a night just before we hit Spring proper.

L.I.E.S on Tzusing: "The tracks on this EP represent the climate of clubbing yesteryear when it was normal for DJs to play such things as Ministry, Front 242, or Nitzer Ebb next to a disco track, next to a breakbeat track, and so forth, and to say these tracks could be heard somewhere like Medusa's would not be off base. Driving, engaging, and downright gnarly, we can only hope these sounds foreshadow things opening back up on the floor as time pushes forward."

Support from ILLSEE, Ginzburg, iimmune, and Fratricide

Back2Basics presents Nakadia (Get Physical) @ Lantern

Known for playing Deep House, Tech House and Techno, this lovely young Thai girl has been bringing her underground sounds to the dance floors of legendary venues like Watergate (Berlin), Café D'Anvers (Antwerp), The Egg (London), D Edge (Sao Paulo), Lola (Shanghai), and Glow (Bangkok). Saturday: Wooozy Offline x Space Debris Committee presents DJ Nobu @ Migas

Wooozy Offline x Space Debris Committee presents DJ Nobu @ Migas

Back to corrupt the sound systems of our favorite clubs, Wooozy Offline calls on Space Debris Committee to bring you the perfect pontiff of audio obscura and techno, DJ Nobu. Keeping the bass tight and beats freaky, DJ Nobu hits the deck alongside Wooozy Offline friendlies Hiro (Microlab) and Taro (Ginga).

DJ Nobu's stance as a DJ can best be described as underground - his persistence is undisputed. However, that should not be confused with stylistic inflexibility.

Rather, his approach is singular and ever-changing, constantly modified and adjusted to the quality and the concept of each gig he plays. He keeps it all underground, yet he manages to mutate it. It is this ability that makes him stand out, as can be heard on his official mixes such as Dream Into Dream (Tearbridge), ON (Musicmine), No Way Back (Lastrum) and Creep Into The Shadows (Underground Gallery).

In recent years, he has been programming his set around highly abstract techno with authentic floor anthems, textured avant-electronic music as well as unknown house tracks, along with even more obscure contemporary electronic pieces. He excels in threading challenging tracks from his wide repertoire into a compelling story.

“Nobu is one of a handful of underground DJs in Japan making aliving solely from playing out, and he is under no illusions as to whyfew others attempt it.” – Red Bull Music Academy
