Where to Enjoy Lotus Season in Beijing

In Beijing, the best time to view lotus flowers is during the summer months, particularly from late June to mid-August.

Several parks in city offer beautiful lotus displays and host festivals celebrating this symbol of purity, enlightenment, and rebirth.

Here are some of the best spots in the capital to check out during lotus season:


Zizhuyuan Park (Purple Bamboo Park)

In Zizhuyuan Park, visitors can board elegant wooden boats at Lotus Ferry Wharf and slowly glide through the pond as they take in the beautiful flowers patched throughout.

The park consists of three large lakes that cover 48 hectares and have a history of nearly 900 years. The lush waters are surrounded by bamboo groves, giving the park a ethereal feel.


Beihai Park

Beihai Park is currently hosting the 29th Lotus Exhibition until July 20. It features over 160 rare potted bonsai lotuses with countless varieties.

Visitors also can enjoy the lotus blooms on the lake from rowboats or along the shore.


Lianhuachi Park (Lotus Pond Park)

Lianhuachi Park has long held historical significance for Beijing and was once a place for the royal family and noblemen to enjoy the nature. It is one of the most renowned places in the city for lotus viewing.

It is currently hosting the Beijing Lotus Culture Festival, showcasing a vibrant display of lotus flowers including over 300 varieties, that will go until late August.


Shichahai

Shichahai is dotted with pink and white lotuses and lush greenery. The area surrounding it is full of restaurants and bars to stop as you enjoy the blooms.

There is also the newly renovated Lotus Market that offers a blend of traditional charm, cultural experiences, and scenic views of the flowers.


Yuanmingyuan Park (Old Summer Palace)

The lotus festival at Yuanmingyuan Park will run until August 31. It also features a number of other flower displays including blooming bonsai trees.

This is a beautiful spot to view the blooms with special platforms allowing you to get up close to the flowers.
