When it came to spending, Beijingers went big during this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival. Consumers in the capital spent hundreds of billions of renminbi during the three-day holiday, Xinhua reports.

According to retail figures taken from 60 leading commercial companies in the city – including those in the food and tourism industries – retail sales surpassed the RMB2 billion mark. That’s roughly USD300 million spent over the holiday.

The number is up 6.6 percent from last year, the Beijing Municipal Commission of Commerce reports.

The same report also showed that Suning (brick-and-mortar outlets), Capital Outlets and Carrefour stores reported an increase of roughly 10 percent compared to last year’s Mid-Autumn Festival holiday.

Per usual, the purchase of mooncakes played a major role in consumer spending.

Beijing-based chain Daoxiangcun sold upwards of 27 million mooncakes by Saturday, the final day of the holiday. The number of patrons at the capital’s restaurants also spiked over the festival.
