It’s almost Valentine’s Day again. Chinese Valentine’s Day, that is. Also known as Qixi, China’s Valentine’s Day occurs during the seventh day of the seventh lunar month. And this year it falls on Tuesday August 9.

According to Chinese mythology Zhinü, the daughter of the Queen of Heaven, fell in love and married a common cow herder named Niulang. However, when her mother caught wind of the news, she forced her daughter to return to the skies and formed the Milky Way to keep the two apart.

But that didn't stop the lovers from being together. Every year, on the seventh night of the seventh moon, thousands of magpies flock to the heavens and form a bridge so that the couple can reunite.

Pretty romantic, huh?

If you’ve got a special someone in Beijing and you want to celebrate Qixi, fear not. There is no shortage of romantic dinners happening in Beijing tomorrow night.
