3D-printing technology can be used to create all sorts of things, from quirky replications of pets to actual medical marvels. But can this technology actually be used to build a house?
The answer is yes.
Last month, a two-story villa was successfully built in Tongzhou, South China Morning Post reports.
It took 45 days for the project’s developers to create all of the steel and concrete materials needed to construct the house. The end product was a 400-square-metre villa that can reportedly withstand an 8.0 magnitude earthquake.
Over 20 tons of steel and 380 cubic meters of concrete were used to create the Beijing home.
By using a 3D printer to make these materials minimal labor was required to actually construct the villa, saving developers on construction and labor costs.
