That's Shanghai takes a look at the best concerts of the week:
Jan 31: Hurts
This
British duo deals in synthpop-tinged romantic ballads, and are
regarded one of of Europe's most successful pop acts. They are passing
through Shanghai as part of the tour for their new album, Desire, which
takes their sound in a more dance floor-friendly direction.

Feb 1: Luis Coelho Band
Luis Coelho is a Shanghai-based guitarist whose style of fusion jazz
guitar blends elements of Latin music and progressive rock. After
releasing an album late last year, Coelho and his band will perform at
JZ Club along with an opening set early in the night by LA vocalist and
guitarist Anthony Trio.

Feb 2: MHP
Shanghainese musician and producer MHP is one of the city’s original
homegrown techno talents. He’s released several acclaimed albums,
including 2016's Folding Traces. Last year he began fusing elements of
pop and jazz into his distinctive style of techno. MHP will perform at
MAO with a full band and vocalist, along with a DJ set by Shanghai
Ultra, who’s part of underground techno crew VOID along with MHP.

Feb 3: Oedo Kuipers
Dutch singer and musical actor Oedo Kuipers visits Shanghai for a solo concert at Shanghai Culture Square. He grew up singing at school and church choirs and made his stage debut in a Christmas play at age 8. Kuipers will perform a selection of songs from classic Broadway musicals, including West Side Story, Pippin and Miss Saigon.

Feb 7: Julie Byrne
Folk musician Julie Byrne released her sophomore album, Not Even Happiness,
last year to wide acclaim. Raised in Buffalo, New York and an avid
traveler through the United States, she's known for her ethereal and
emotionally resonating folk songs about relationships and the natural
