Shanghai Supermarket Worker Kills Kitten in Front of Customers

Today in animal cruelty, a shop worker at a branch of supermarket chain Lianhua has been accused of throwing a kitten out of its Wuxing Lu store with such force that it died minutes later. Local onlookers at the scene, which occured on Monday March 13, reported that he threw the tiny stray animal because it had become trapped in the store.

American expat Lisa Movius, an eyewitness at the scene, recalled in a social media post how the employee roughly picked up the kitten by its head and neck before "marching to the door and throwing it several meters," in full view of protesting Lianhua customers.

"I hit him trying to stop him but was too late, then ran after the kitten. It couldn’t move, its pupils were huge and eyes bulging out, and it died a few minutes later," she recounts.

Police were called to the scene and took both Movius and the shop worker in, where he allegedly tried to press charges against her for hitting him, though unsuccessfully.

"The police made him apologize, though he was hardly sincere and kept whinging that it had scratched him, and the police even apologized to me that China's laws are not yet fully developed."

Movius susequently wrote a letter and placed numerous phone calls to Lianhua's head office asking them to terminate the employee, but the company has so far declined to comment on the matter.

Reminds us of that incident a few months back when a stray puppy was publicly beaten to death and drowned in a fountain in Minhang last year.

Or back in November when somebody filmed a man grilling a dog alive in Wuhan.
