Stray Dog Beaten to Death As People Watch On

Shanghai animal welfare group BestFriendsChina (BFC) has taken to WeChat to question the morality of several people who sat idly by as a security guard beat a stray dog to death in a Minhang park yesterday morning. 

The post, which has received over 52,000 views and is quickly accumulating more by the second, has caused quite a stir amongst animal lovers, who have called for the security guard to be punished and have been quick to condemn the witnesses of the act of animal cruelty. 

"A dog is a dog, but a human is not humanlike sometimes," user 'Icy' commented.

A short gif-style clip shows the dog in a park fountain, clearly agitated, being hit repeatedly with a large stick as it struggles to escape. Several people sit with their legs crossed on a park bench directly in front of the fountain. 

In the evening, a short vigil was held for the dog in the park. "They not only mourn the loss of a life, they also mourn the loss of kindness in mankind," the BFC post reads.
