A recurring look at what's happening at Shanghai's art galleries:


1. Nordic Design and Innovation Week 2015

For the third straight year, the consulate generals of Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden team up for this celebration of Nordic design. This year spotlights Nordic Spaces with 10 days of seminars, workshops and public exhibitions. Discover technological innovations and Nordic design ideals like sustainability and beauty through simplicity and functionality. More information available at their website.

2. HUGO Boss Asia Art Award for Emerging Artists

201510/hugobossart.jpgRockbund Art Museum (RAM) and Hugo Boss team up for the second edition of this biannual awards exhibition that spotlights emerging artists in Greater China and Southeast Asia. Newly commissioned works by the six selected shortlisted artists: Huang Po-Chih (Taiwan), Moe Satt (Myanmar), Maria Taniguchi (Philippines) and Vandy Rattana (Cambodia), as well as Beijing based Yang Xinguang (pictured above) and Guan Xiao (pictured in cover image) will be shown. Based on the exhibition, a winner will be announced in November and will receive a RMB300,000 stipend.

3. Shanghai Drift

The LED-heavy Liu Dao collective debut their newest exhibition, Shanghai Drift, with works “inspired by the clash of urbanality and traditionalism” in Shanghai. Friday opening invitation by reservation only.

4. Zhu Jia: Critical Pervasion

The Beijing-born artist shows off his latest video art pieces and photographic works. Zhu’s been lauded for years for his experimental conceptual style. The show opens on November 4 from 4-6pm.

5. 15 Rooms

This performance art exhibition is curated by MoMA PS1’s director Klaus Biesenbach and London’s Serpentine Gallery co-director Hans Ulrich Obrist. What debuted in Sydney as 12 Rooms has travelled around the world, adding pieces. For 15 Rooms, 15 big-name Chinese and international artists will be given one room in an environment desgined by Herzong & de Meuron, providing a unique, immersive and intimate art experience. Marian Abramovic, Cao Fei and Allora & Calzadilla are among the big name participants.

6. Neo-Perception

This group exhibition brings together 24 emerging young female artists from China that explore women’s identity. Featured artists include Zhou Hongbin (pictured above) Gao Shan, He Xiaochun, Wu Chao, Pei Li and Liu Qianyi with works spanning a range of mediums.
