Li Tingwei: Feeling Good?J:Gallery welcomes the Shandong born artist artist who has exhibited in Berlin, New York and Beijing. For her first solo show in China, she mixes videos, installations and relevant texts into an exploration into “people’s aspirations for physical and mental well-being, as well as slef-perfection in a capitalist society, in the face of ubiquitous commodity consumerism and online media.” Heavy stuff.

Please fasten your seat belt as we are experiencing some turbulene takes inspiration from global affairs featuring works by Kathryn Andrews, Andrea Büttner, Chen Wei, Heman Chong, Sam Gilliam, Zach Harris, Evan Holloway, Rashid Johnson, Gabriel Lester, Li Qing, Liu Shiyuan, Pixy Liao, Jonas Lund, Tala Madani, Chris Martin, Torbjørn Rødland, Sissel Tolaas, Tom of Finland, Wei Jia, Ming Wong, and Betty Woodman. Opening reception on March 17 from 6-8pm.

Katsuki Nogami: Yamada Taro Project

The latest in the Foreign Bodies: Human Identities in a Posthuman World series puts the focus on Katsuki Nogami's Namada Taro citizens, which move and act like humans but whose human faces are frozen images on an iPad.

5. Shanghai 2002

Shanghai 2002

15 years ago, photographers Bettina Rheims and Serge Bramly released a series of photos of Women in Shanghai based on two extended stays. While their initial mission was to "search for the spirit of Shanghai's women," what they discovered was a city so fast moving with strong personalities across walks of life that is revisited in Shanghai 2002.

6. Made in Germany: German Photography from the 19th Century to Today

Made in Germany

Shanghai Center of Photography presents this historic overview of German photography from 1850 to the present, showcasing iconic masterpieces from legends like Leopold Ahrendts, Umbo amd Erwin Blumenfeld. Made in Germany features more than 100 works tracing the evolution of the form from the post-war avant-garde through the Post-World War II period to today’s continued innovations.
