Town Crier! is random snippets of Shanghai news that just may have an effect on your life...
With Lebron James and his Cleveland Cavaliers dropping the recent NBA Finals to the Golden State Warriors, Michael Jordan's status as the greatest basketball player ever remains unthreatened. The six-time NBA champion and five-time MVP will be rolling through the Mercedes-Benz Arena on October 14 as part of this year's NBA Global Games.
No, the 52-year-old won't be playing, but the league's first former player-turned-majority owner will be bringing his Charlotte Hornets for an exhibition game against the Los Angeles Clippers, featuring perpetual All-Stars Chris Paul and Blake Griffin. In addition to the always sold-out game, there will be a variety of activities including those organized by NBA Cares, the basketball league's charity arm.
Although the infamously competitive Jordan won't be lacing up his Air Jordans on the court, we're hopeful that he'll follow in the footsteps of fellow basketball great Shaquille O'Neal and do some extracurricular partying at M1NT while in town. The NBA Global Games will also make its debut in Shenzhen when the Hornets and Clippers tip off at the Shenzhen Universiade Center on October 11. This trip will mark the 20th game that the NBA has held in Greater China since 2004. Stay tuned for more details about when tickets go on sale.
