It's strange living in Shanghai as a foreigner; not least of all the fact that mundane things from home transform into some kind of magical essence once they appear in Shanghai. Taco Bell is one of those things. At home in the US, it's something you barely think about and probably barely eat at (unless it's very late and/or you are very drunk), yet few Americans can admit that frisson of excitement we all experienced once we found out that Taco Bell was coming to the civilized side of Shanghai aka Puxi. This Taco Bell is perfectly situated in a good location near Nanjing West road subway station(s), and is even open pretty late to boot. The food is 100% authentic in terms of Taco Bell (much less so in terms of actual Mexican food, but who is really expecting that from Taco Bell? lol), possibly even 110% if compared to Taco Bell in America. Stone brewery has finally planted its long roots in Shanghai, and I’m not sure what even needs to be said. It’s stone brewery. The infamous brand has wowed the United States for a long time with their incredible beers, and the new addition to the Shanghai scene has blown many other craft beer bars out of the water.
The atmosphere is amazing. Indoor and outdoor space that’s gorgeous to gaze your eyes upon. The warmy layout transports you to a lakeside cottage where you feel welcome and comfortable. The beer is incredible, with some of them being 10 years old, to some incredibly fresh beers that are gentle on the pallet. The food is wonderfully prepared by a wonderful staff that don’t spare a time on quality. Overall, Stone is an up and coming spot for the whose who of shanghai, and I expect great things from them in the future.
KOTG was an all-round high-quality experience and the worthy recipient of the Oakham Curry Club’s coveted Curry House of the Year (CHOTY) award for Shanghai in 2017.
The atmosphere was quite lively, with diners coming and going throughout the night. Given all other venues in Cool Docks seemed empty – even on a Friday night – it’s clear KOTG is doing something right.
The food was of a particularly high quality. The kebabs we ordered as starters were spiced to perfection. The array of curries for mains did also not disappoint, although some members mentioned a lack of spice, even in the mutton vindaloo.
The service was another highlight. The owner Sandeep was particularly accommodating, as was our main waiter, who even came back after we ordered to inform us of an extra daily special he thought would be of interest.
The final price of 370 RMB was deemed to be good value given the high quality and sheer amount of food and drinks ordered, too.
