Yesterday it was reported that Jaycee Chan, 32-year-old son of kung fu superstar Jackie Chan, was detained in Beijing on drug-related charges along wth Taiwanese movie star Kai Ko.

Chan the Younger and Ko both tested positive for drug use and admitted today to possessing 100 grams of marijuana, which Chan says was given to him two years ago. The drugs were discovered when police raided Chan's residence in Dongcheng district. Police reportedly began their investigation at the beginning of the month when they were tipped off by one of Chan's assistants.

Jaycee was arrested alongside his friend Kai Ko, the 23-year-old actor who shot to fame after staring in the wildly popular film adaption of the novel You Are the Apple of My Eye. Ko's interrogation by police was broadcast across the country's state-owned media, showing the young heartthrob tearfully confessing and repenting for his sins.

Ko's legions of fangirls haven't been the only ones decrying how Beijing instantaneously turned his distress into an anti-drugs advertisement, with many netizens arguing that doing so constitutes a violation of his human rights.

The arrests follow a number of other high-profile cases of Chinese celebrities allegedly caught using drugs, such as actor Gao Hu and singer Li Daimo, both convicted and jailed earlier this year.

For years, Jackie Chan, a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and official anti-drug ambassador, has been fawning on the Communist Party, earning himself widespread scorn in Taiwan and his native Hong Kong by arguing that Chinese people "need to be controlled" and Hong Kong and Taiwan are "messes" since they have "too much freedom."

The targeting of Jackie Chan's son in this widening anti-drug campaign has therefore came as a shock to many, including Chan himself, who is said to be flying to Beijing now to help with his son's case.
