Under no circumstances should anyone party on the Beijing subway tonight. The That’s Beijing staff would like to take a moment to say that we had no intention of ever attending said "party," do not celebrate "Halloween" and that anyone who sends you the image below saying they found it on our website is an absolute psychopath.
In anticipation for the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Conference (APEC), Beijing officials have banned Halloween - on the subway, that is. Police are ridding the city of the annual disorganized party that encapsulates life in Beijing as it may cause crowds to gather and create "trouble."
"Public transport police point out, please do not wear strange outfits in subway trains or in train carriages, which could easily cause a crowd to gather and create trouble," the Beijing News reported.
Those who choose to wear costumes, make-up or "upset order" face arrest.
"If the chaos is serious and causes a stampede or other public safety incident, the police will deal with it severely in accordance with the law."
The message was posted online to the newspapers website and sent to subscribed users via WeChat earlier today.
"Bring your costumes and change in the bathroom once you go thru security," a user named MeganMCD.. responded to the WeChat notification.
"We will make it through don't worry," an intrepid user named Tania posted. She later backed down and wrote, "Don't go to the subway [on] halloween if its such a hassle."
The popular Beijing subway party has been a city staple since 2009. Attendance peaked in 2012, when an estimated 100 costumed revelers invaded Subway Line 2.
"I went last year," a user named Jeff responded via WeChat to the newspaper's warning. "The idea is way better than the actual party."
