The world's most colorful run is headed back to Shanghai.

The Color Run returns to our fair city for the fifth time with its brand new Love Tour on June 1. It's all about spreading the love! Runners can celebrate what they love about themselves, each other and the planet we all share.

What is The Color Run?

The Color Run, also known as the Happiest 5K on the Planet, is a unique event that celebrates health, happiness and individuality. Now the largest running series in the world, The Color Run has been experienced by over 7 million runners worldwide in more than 40 countries.

How the Event Works

The Color Run is a five-kilometer, untimed event. At each kilometer mark, Color Runners are doused from head to toe in a different colored powder. Participants wear white at the starting line and finish the race plastered in a rainbow of colors. Once the race is over, the fun continues at the Finish Festival, a larger-than-life party equipped with music, dancing, photo ops, activity booths, vendors and more massive color throws, which create millions of vivid color combinations. Trust us, this is the best post-5K party on the planet!

You might have already noticed that The Color Run isn’t like other 5K runs. Get ready for a race with lots of love and lots of color powder throws.

Here are some Color Run tips to help you prep for the big race...

Tips

1. Bring a Small Sandwich Bag for Your Cell Phone

You’re gonna want to capture the color throws in all their glory. But since you can’t throw your phone in the wash after the race, keep it in a baggie to protect it from the powder. You’ll still be able to capture some killer photos!

2. Get There Early

With thousands of Color Runners getting ready to run, you’ll want to get there a bit early. We also recommend that you pick up your packet the day before the event, which will give you more time to participate in the pre-race warmup the morning of the run (and save you a few renminbi)! It’s a party you’ll want to start sooner rather than later.

3. Take Before and After Photos

Start your morning by snapping a pre-race pic in your clean clothes, and get another photo after the race, once you’re covered in color. The before-and-after comparison is definitely Insta-worthy!

4. Run with Your Friends, Your Family and/or Your Kids

The Color Run is an environment where everyone feels comfortable getting active, no matter your age or ability level. Whether you’re young or old, you’ll feel at home. Plus, kids under five years old run for free!

Have fun!

The Color Run is more about making memories and having fun than worrying about your mile time! Runners, walkers, dancers – everyone is welcome. Whenever you cross the finish line, there’s a party waiting for you at the Finish Festival, where you can celebrate completing the Happiest 5K.

The most important thing to remember is that it’s not all that complicated. Just come ready to have a good time! So are you ready to go?
