Planning to travel during the upcoming May Holiday?
Good news: MTR Corporation (Shenzhen) just announced it will extend service hours for Metro Line 4 and Line 13 to better accommodate the holiday travel rush.
But take note—MTR Corporation (Shenzhen) operates differently from Shenzhen Metro Group, so this announcement covers only these two lines.
Here’s what you need to know:
Why the Change?
The May Holiday, running from April 30 to May 5, is one of China’s busiest travel periods, and passenger numbers are expected to spike.
Line 4, connecting key hubs like Futian Checkpoint and Shenzhen North Station, is forecasted to hit a daily peak of 770,000 passengers—about 11% higher than normal.
Line 13, which also links to major transit points including Shenzhen Bay Port, is expected to handle up to 130,000 passengers daily, about 13% more than usual.
To ease the crowding and help travelers move smoothly, MTR Corporation (Shenzhen) will extend train operating hours throughout the holiday period.
Extended Service Details
Line 4 (Longhua Line):
April 30 & May 1: Service extended by about 1.5 hours.
Last train from Shenzhen North Station departs no earlier than 1am the next day.
May 2 & May 3: Service extended by about 0.5 hours.
Last train departs no earlier than midnight.
May 4 & May 5: Major extension of about 2.9 hours.
Last train departs no earlier than 2.15am the next day.
Line 13:
April 30 to May 5:
Service extended by 1 hour each night.
Last trains in both directions will depart around midnight.
Travel Tips
Be sure to double-check the last train times at your boarding station, especially if you’re catching a late connection.
Expect busy platforms and full trains during peak evening hours, particularly at Shenzhen North Station, Futian Checkpoint, and Shenzhen Bay Port.
And remember: not all Shenzhen Metro lines are affected—these extensions apply only to MTR Corporation (Shenzhen) Lines 4 and 13.
