Modern Sky-affiliated Beijing band Mr. Turtle straddled a number of genres, including reggae, soul and funk, blues and indie pop. Catch them as they go out on a monstrous tour around the country, making pitstops in both Shenzhen and Guangzhou this weekend.

Sat, Mar 30: Taichi Mukai @ Hou Live

Pure romance here for fans of neo soul music and R&B, as Taichi Mukai, an artist from the new generation of J-pop music, combines typical balladeering and heart-on-the-sleeve lyrics with samples and beats. Potentially a great first date, this gig will display your worldly and cultured approach to music.
Sat Mar 30, 8pm; RMB360 presale, RMB680 presale VIP. Hou Live. See event listing. Tickets.
Sat, Mar 30: Yer Mudder @ Brown Sugar Jar - Public Live

Guangzhou rockers Yer Mudder team up with A Reptile Disfunction and Shenzheners Mott and Thin City to bring you, the lovely people of Shenzhen, a fantastic evening of rock and roll. While we’re immediately fascinated by the band names, we are excited to see four fun, up-and-coming local acts take to the stage over the course of one evening.
Sat Mar 30, 8.30pm; RMB50 presale, RMB70 at the door. Brown Sugar Jar - Public Live. See event listing. Tickets.
Sun, Mar 31: Oliver Hafenbauer @ Oil
Hitting up all the trendy clubs throughout China (Zhao Dai in Beijing, Tag in Chengdu, etc.), German DJ Oliver Hafenbauer has carved out a reputation as a producer, musical curator at Offenbach-based club Robert Johnson and as a label head, thanks to his work with leftfield imprint Die Orakel. Joining him on the evening will be Shenzhen-based Sam Lai, who has made appearances at a number of major music festivals around China.
Sun Mar 31, 10pm; RMB50 presale, RMB80 at the door. Oil. See event listing. Tickets.
