That’s Shenzhen takes a look at the best gigs of the week.

Fri, Jan 25: Yousuke Yukimatsu @ Oil

Hailing from Osaka, Japan, Yousuke Yukimatsu’s profile in The Land of the Rising Sun has risen quickly as a result of his powerful and experimental DJ sets, all of which seem to take on a surprising life of their own. His set was one of the highlights at the 2017 edition of the Berlin Atonal festival on his European debut. With gigs alongside the likes of Arca and Oneohtrix Point Never in the bag, now is the perfect time to catch this rising DJ at the top of his game.

Fri Jan 25, 10pm; RMB60 presale, RMB90 at the door. Oil. See event listing. Tickets.

Sat, Jan 26: 15 Minutes of Music @ At Life (1979 Culture and Innovation Park)

If you happen to swing by 1979 Culture and Innovation Park this Saturday, why not let your ears have '15 minutes of music' played by the Shenzhen Playing and Singing Group? Listen as the group, which consists of ordinary folks, underground musicians and street singers, share their life stories through their performance.

Sat Jan 26, 7.30-11pm; free entry. At Life (1979 Culture and Innovation Park). See event listing

Sat, Jan 26: Medusa @ Oil

We have on good authority, Medusa is supposed to be a cracker of a party. Michael Cignarale – the diva behind MEDUSA (Shanghai's monthly dose of ecstatic, cunty, glittering and vogueing realness) – weaves together DJ sets of queer house and disco. Complete with slamming 909s, silky Chicago keys, raw acid lines and (sometimes) live vocals from the queen bitch himself. Prepare yourself for a near-god experience.

Sat Jan 26, 10pm; RMB60 presale, RMB90 at the door. Oil. See event listing. Tickets.

Fri, Jan 27: Four Masters of the Zheng @ Nanshan Cultural and Sports Center
