That's Shenzhen takes a look at the best gigs of the week.
Fri, Dec 28: From Your Balcony @ B10
Having just released a new album, The Party, last month, French musician From Your Balcony arrives in China for his second ever China tour. Armed with delightfully relaxing acoustic indie music, and with a fondness for more caustic rhythms, From Your Balcony's musical palate is a trip. At times he has shades of Andrew Bird about him, while at others his more aggressive sound might put you in mind of Conor Oberst in his early Bright Eyes days.
Fri Dec 28, 8.30pm; RMB120 presale, RMB160 at the door. B10. See event listing. Tickets.
Sat, Dec 29: Wutiaoren @ B10
Chaoshan band Wutiaoren have had a busy year. While on the one hand they have been dropping new music, they have also been touring at home and abroad, having just returned from Brazil of all places. Their poetic folk music is a rarity in this part of the world, as they paint pictures with their words, their instruments and their zany willingness to experiment. A must see if you've got an evening to spare.
Sat Dec 29, 8.30pm; RMB120 early bird, RMB150 presale. B10. See event listing. Tickets.
Sat, Dec 29: Chestnut Bakery @ Brown Sugar Jar Public Live

We've been awaiting Chestnut Bakery's return for a long time. Their 2015 album, Diaries, brought them to national attention, as they combined softly spoken vocals with gentle dream pop, creating a sound not unlike Cigarettes After Sex.
Sat Dec 29, 8.30pm; RMB80 presale, RMB100 at the door. Brown Sugar Jar Public Live. See event listing. Tickets.
Sun, Dec 30: IC3PEAK @ Oil
IC3PEAK is a russian horror fairy tale created by Nastya Kreslina & Nick Kostylev, two audiovisual artists based in Moscow, Russia. They play noisy dark pop, and combine a heavy sound with sharp high-pitched vocals in attempts to instigate dance.
Sun Dec 30, 10pm; RMB80 presale, RMB120 at the door. Oil. See event listing. Tickets.
