Where to Celebrate St. Patrick's Day in Shenzhen

A St. Patrick's Day spent partying and drinking in the middle of Lent might cause the old missionary to reach for his snake-bashing staff, but by now it's a time-honored tradition. 

Join the festivities at these spots across Shenzhen, with dinner specials, comedy, live music and, of course, that iconic green beer. Just brace yourself for some long Didi queues by the end of the night.

March 14

Hard Rock Cafe Shenzhen

Ireland's own Karl Spain, Fred Cooke, Kevin McGarhern are in town to help Shenzhen get ready for the weekend's fun. With musicality and the island's beloved art of storytelling, the trio bring the the pluck of the Irish to Longhua's Hard Rock Cafe. Ticket price includes a Brewdog Jet Black Heart beer and round trip bus trip from Futian, Shekou or Dongguan.

March 16-18

The Brew

All weekend long, toss back Guinness for RMB50 and enjoy a special menu of traditional favorites like cottage pie and all-day Irish breakfast. The Craicheads set the mood with their blend of rock and traditional Irish on Friday night, with Irish pop/rock on Saturday from Full of Exits and The Fart that Woke the Baby. Who can argue with a name like that?

March 17

Ding Dong Dash

There are limited tickets available for one of Shenzhen's biggest bar crawls, with a chance to win RMB500, RMB1,000 or RMB1,500 (depending on how much alcohol you can handle). Pick a crawl covering seven, eight, or nine bars across Shekou, all ending at Baia Burger Concept after midnight. Eden Garden 

At the Hilton Shekou's rooftop bar, RMB100 gets you three hours of free flow green beer, or a liter of cider or Guiness. Be sure to wear something green if you want a free gift (and to avoid all those pinches).

Fur 

This cute little Nanshan bar offers a free Jameson shot to everyone wearing a green shirt or hat (!) in honor of the Irish. Everyone can enjoy drink specials, RMB150/six for more shots of Jameson and, if you're actually Irish, 40 percent off the bottle.

Hard Rock Cafe 

On St. Patrick's Day get ready to rock the shamrocks, green clothing and all your Irish accessories. Pints of Jet Black Heart or Jameson Whisky will be buy one get one free till 11pm.

Joy Luck Club 

DJ Pax and MashMike are spinning for the third annual St. Patrick's Day event from PandoraParties. Over 300 can fit inside the beautiful new Joy Luck Club, but buy your tickets early: the prices rise from RMB100 to RMB150 depending on how many have aleady been sold. Once inside you'll get a free drink, lots of great music and some green paraphernalia if you're early enough.

King's Bar

Stop by this Bao'an bar on St. Patty's for live Irish music and all-day Guinness specials.

Mambo

The charming little taqueria goes green for the holiday, with RMB25 beers and RMB10 pulled pork tacos in that verdant color. No live music is announced, but the spirit of the day should last well into the night.

At Shenzhen's Irish pub, RMB200 gets you four pints of Guiness at any McCawley's location in Shenzhen. Free gifts for partygoers don't hurt, either.

The Terrace

Raise a glass of green beer to St. Patrick, fair Ireland and the world's favorite night of overindulgence. TAS rocks out the tunes of Irish bands, leprechaun hats abound and The Terrace offers a special menu of cocktails to get you in the mood. Go bragh or go home.
