Jan 31: Chicago Brass Quintet Axiom
This versatile quintet covers everything from jazz to Latin music to string quartet music. Trumpeter Dorival Puccini leads the group, writing custom arrangements for the brass ensemble. Together, Axiom has won awards and even been described as “one of the major art music groups in brass chamber music.”

Feb 1: The xx in Hong Kong
Languorous vocals paired with sparse instrumentals makes up The xx's unique brand of dream pop, and earned the trio a faithful following around the world. Following the release of critically acclaimed I See You last January, the prize-winning London group have headlined festivals across Europe and embarked on a grand tour of Asia.

Feb 1-2: Riverdance
This celebration of traditional Irish music and dance is rooted in a three-part suite of baroque-influenced traditional music called ‘Timedance.’ Composers Whelan and Lunny augmented Irish folk with a rock rhythm section of electric bass and drums, and a four-piece horn section to create a genre-leaping masterpiece. The high-energy feats of these dancers will leave you in awe of the children of Éire.

Feb 3: SIS 2nd Annual Discover China
In honor of its host country, the Shekou International School is once again opening its doors for a celebration featuring food, activities and performances. The second annual Discover China event aims to educate attendees on Chinese culture while also serving up local delicacies. For more information about the event, call 2669 3369.

Feb 3: Operation Dorothy: The Electric Fabulous Drinking Race
For this good old-fashioned poker run, teams or individuals will race to visit seven bars in the city, downing craft beers and collecting cards along the way. At the final destination, Magma/Dolores Park, players get to face off in a round of poker. Proceeds will support LGBT groups, adding a feel-good element to the fun. Feb 3: 'Whatever Show' Pop-Up Gallery
The International Shenzhen Artist Forum's latest show kicks off this weekend. Meet artists both local and international at the opening event from 4-7pm on Saturday. Stick around for an after party that begins at 9pm, featuring DJs and live music until late into the evening. The exhibition ends March 6.

Feb 3: International Bazaar & Job Fair
The inaugural edition of this soon-to-be monthly event aims to gather together various service providers for Shenzhen's expat community. There'll also be job listings (see a few here) for foreign citizens to peruse. Entry is free, while businesses can rent a booth for the presale price of RMB20.

Feb 3: Oil Club Presents Jacques Greene
Pitchfork darling Jacques Greene is coming to Oil Club. The Canadian DJ won praise for catchy electronic tracks such as 'Another Girl' as early as 2011. Last year he released debut album Feel Infinite, described by Clash Magazine as "innately cerebral and wholly physical, genre-less and a style of its own."
