Drivers Yield to Ambulance, Chinese Media Celebrates

China Daily called the video it shared on Twitter today 'heartwarming.' The clip in question?

Footage of Shenzhen cars making way for an ambulance during rush hour last Friday.

Inside the ambulance was a patient being transferred from a Dongguan hospital to Shenzhen's Nanshan People’s Hospital, according to a front-page report by the Shenzhen Daily.

Though the 'more than 1,000' yielding drivers thrilled netizens, Western commentators were less impressed, with Sixth Tone writer Owen Churchhill tweeting: "Heartbreaking: that this isn't the norm."

In fact, the Shenzhen Daily has been on a bit of a roll of reporting 'heartwarming' things we would hope are part of basic decency.

Some recent examples include a gobstruck article about student volunteers, a totally-not-an-op-ed piece titled 'An Unattended Store Shows City's Honesty' and an article titled 'Volunteers Take Care of Frightened Baby,' about a baby being fed and rested while the mother received medical care after sustaining 'serious injuries' in a traffic accident.

If this is news, what usually happens to the baby?
