Our goal is to provide world-class cocktails, excellent service and a modern space with Asian elements that combines the best of east and west," says Director of Food & Beverage Bechara Sader, who is responsible for the opening of Shangri-La Futian’s latest outlet.

Originally part of the award-winning Shang Garden Restaurant, the hotel management felt that there was a need for a hip yet sexy cocktail bar in the marketplace and turned one of their private dining rooms into a modern lounge with accents of oriental flair, comfortable background music and carefully mixed cocktails. While the overall theme is monochromatic in shades of sand, silver, black and bursts of cinnabar red, the contemporary design adds to the Asian feel and provides an elegant pre- and after-dinner cocktail environment to its guests.

What separates Shang Garden Cocktail Bar from competitors though, are the handcrafted cocktails (RMB68) which are mixed with homemade infused liquors, i.e. lemongrass, chili or cherries that are stored in air-tight bottles while soaking in selected premium spirits. The result is a new interpretation of timeless classics and cult hits and with immaculate blends of whimsical flavors of high-end spirits and home-made infusions accented with notable Asian ingredients.

Standouts include the Manhattan a la Futian which offers a delightful harmony between the orange bitters, sweet vermouth and sharp, musky whiskey, all served with a rum-infused cherry. If you are looking for some deep yet fresh flavor, try the Bergamot Fizz with gin, lemon juice, earl grey syrup and splash of soda. Or go straight for the bar's namesake cocktail, the ShanG, which sees white rum, fresh raspberries, mint leaves, brown sugar, filled up with sparkling wine and a slice of lemon. Patrons will also find an extensive selection of wines, beers, liquors and hearty nibbles, which taste even better when enjoyed on the alluring outside patio right beneath the stars.
