Three men involved in a foreign prostitution business were handed prison sentences ranging from nine months to seven years behind bars, according to a release from the Huangpu District People’s Court.

Police were lead to the main suspect, surnamed Wang, last year after catching a Chinese man with a foreign prostitute in a hotel on Wuchang Road. The woman then divulged the name of her distributor and police held him for questioning.

According to the court Wang used 10 different foreign women in his service, mostly students, which initiated in 2012. He advertised his sexual offerings online accompanied by photos for clients to take their pick. The service was complete with a rented hotel room and a hefty fee.

The court said Wang was responsible for setting up 15 sessions in the four month period between last August and November and took half of the fees.

Two additional men were jailed as Wang’s subsidiaries who also took a share of the fees. One man was the boss of a foot massage parlor who called the service for his clients. Court records show that the prostitutes charged about 2,500 yuan (US$403) for each encounter, with Wang earning 11,750 yuan and the other two men earning 4,300 yuan from the service.

Prison sentences were distributed with Wang getting seven years, the parlour boss getting five and the third man nine months.

The details about the prostitutes have yet to be released, but the court ordered them to serve administrative detentions.

A Shanghai television report is quoted as saying one of the 10 women was a 29-year-old Russian.
