While Beijing's chengguan are allegedly killing foreigners' dogs in front of them, their Shanghai counterparts are reportedly taking a softer approach, by stealing bar furniture from Yongkang Lu.

According to a recent post on Smart Shanghai, a few dozen chengguan rolled into the bar street in a big truck on Wednesday afternoon, where they reportedly stripped every single bar with outside seating of its tables, chairs and stools.

Venues said to be particularly affected were Oh My Kebab! and Dean's Bottle Shop, who lost two large tables. In a tragic turn of events, al fresco drinking on Yongkang on Wednesday evening was said to be standing only, but for a few exceptions.

According to one worker on the street, establishments had been warned the previous day to remove all outdoor seating, a threat which was ignored by some venues.

A relief to all of us, the situation is set to return to normal for the weekend.
