DJ BL3ND: the electro mixer behind the mask

In five years, DJ BL3ND went from an unknown handing out homemade mixes outside of LA clubs to ruling the Internet. His high-energy videos and eye-popping (terrifying) mask has made an impression with more than 200 million YouTube views, 20 million music downloads and 3.2 million Facebook fans. He’s topped the Billboard Uncharted charts a record 62 weeks and he’s built up a global following.

On his appeal...
My goal as a DJ has always been to deliver fun nights anywhere. People like what I do because I deliver something different. I know what my fans like and continue to deliver them the BL3ND energy with any style of music that I produce or mix.

On his mask...
It’s something I had in my closet when I started making videos. Over the years I started changing the look and am currently getting a whole new mask. It will be BL3ND 2.0 and the same style. It is a challenge sometimes wearing it because sometimes I don’t have 100 percent vision. But I don’t plan on ever unmasking because BL3ND is who he is, not the guy behind the mask.

On haters and Diplo...
I don’t mind haters. I just keep doing what I do and don’t pay attention to the negativity. Things are cool between Diplo and I [the DJs got into a kerfuffle last year]. We finally met when we played the same festival in December and took a picture together.

On playing China...
China, I’m excited to party with you. I hope you’re ready and I want to see you go insane when I am there raging with you. It will be a fun, wild, energetic night.
