In late 2025, Shanghai’s New Hongqiao Center will welcome the debut of Surya Hotel, a new luxury lifestyle brand under Anandi Hotel Management that blends Eastern and Western wellness philosophies. Drawing from Ayurvedic traditions and contemporary design, the 198-room property aims to redefine the urban escape for discerning city dwellers seeking both rejuvenation and inspiration.
A Name That Embodies Light and Vitality
The brand takes its name from Surya, the sun god of Indian mythology, symbolising light, hope and boundless energy. Its Chinese name, Sheliya, reflects grace and beauty, while a lemon-inspired logo signifies joy and personalised care. Surya’s core concept, ‘curated wellness living’, merges sleek modernity with adaptable spaces, creating a serene, light-filled retreat in the heart of a fast-paced metropolis.
Architecture in Motion
Designed by CAP Atelier and creative director Xu Peishi, the hotel embraces the theme of ‘light in motion’, weaving natural elements into a modern reinterpretation of Jiangnan charm. Guided by the Eastern design philosophy of ‘scenery that transforms with every step’, the property balances Shanghai’s historic character with the fluid lyricism of classical gardens, delivering a sanctuary that feels both connected to its surroundings and set apart from the urban rush.
Rooms Designed for Restoration
Surya Hotel will feature 198 guestrooms and suites, each conceived as a healing environment. Minimalist design, natural materials, celadon-hued screens, and artistic glass partitions create poetic plays of light and shadow. Inspired by Jiangnan garden aesthetics, these spaces are intended as elegant retreats for energy renewal and quiet contemplation.
Culinary Well-being with a Modern Twist
Dining at Surya revolves around the philosophy of ‘Modern Ayurveda’ — combining seasonal, locally sourced ingredients with Ayurvedic principles. Guests can explore an inventive leisure dining restaurant, a specialty Chinese venue offering locally inspired Ayurvedic dishes, and a botanical cocktail-focused lobby lounge. Interactive experiences such as culinary workshops and themed dinners position these venues as vibrant social spaces as well as nourishing wellness hubs.
Wellness Meets Events
The hotel’s pillar-free 630-square-metre ballroom draws on Jiangnan opera stage design, featuring custom crystal chandeliers and landscape-inspired art. Perfect for weddings, galas or corporate events, it connects seamlessly to an outdoor lawn for open-air ceremonies, holistic workshops, or starlit soirées.
A Sanctuary of Holistic Healing
The wellness centre combines East–West traditions, including authentic Ayurvedic therapies such as traditional Indian back hot oil treatments, alongside body revitalisation and facial care. Facilities include a meditation and sound bath studio, breathwork and aura reading spaces, a 180-square-metre heated pool, premium fitness equipment, and private treatment rooms — all designed to guide guests through a transformative wellness journey. With its arrival in Q4 2025, Surya Hotel Shanghai New Hongqiao Center will mark a new chapter for Anandi Hotel Management’s luxury portfolio — a luminous retreat in the heart of the Hongqiao CBD where Ayurveda meets metropolitan elegance.
