Step into an evening of luxury and sophistication at the Grand Kempinski Hotel Shanghai’s 30th floor Havana Bar this Thursday, March 14, and a night that promises an extraordinary cocktail journey for all guests.

The Guest Bartender Night will feature a special appearance by Lio Yao, the famed manager of Asia’s 50 Best bar, The Union Trading Company.

Lio’s accolades include winning the 2019 Four Pillars Gin Asia National Top 8 and the 2020 Remy Barrel Aged Cocktail Competition Chinese Championship.

He also participated in the opening ceremony of Shanghai Fashion Week 2020 and was invited by 'Mr. Fashion' to write a cocktail column in 2020.

Lio always boldly integrates local characteristics and traditional culture with cocktail creativity, captivating audiences with visually and tastefully stunning cocktail creations.

This enigmatic master of oriental spices skilfully uses a variety of ingredients, serving as an artistic guide to deliver a stunning, full sensorial experience.

To guests at Havana Bar, he will present four special cocktails...

The Grace

Featuring Havana Club 3 Years and blueberry shrub, this libation pays homage to rum enthusiasts, like the writer Ernest Hemingway and President John F. Kennedy.

The complex sweet notes of the dark rum mingle with the subtle blend of Earl Grey Tea, emitting a lingering warming aroma.

The Cure

With a history that can be traced back to 1862, this standout drink deserves to be tasted first-hand for the history alone.

Combining Chivas Mizunara whisky and Oloroso sherry, this sipper is finished with a spray of rose water, resulting in a highly aromatic dram.

Union Sour

Perfectly aligning with the evening’s theme of uniting every guest at Havana, this cocktail is crafted with Havana Club 7 Years rum, Amaro, citrus and orange blossom water.

Showcasing Beefeater 24 gin paired with Longjing tea, this classic cocktail balances the refreshing taste of gin with the fragrant tea, enhanced by the gentle sweetness of St. Germain.

Lio Yao hopes to evoke a warm, familiar sense of home for guests through his unique cocktail creations and enthusiastic, friendly service style – a mission he has pursued passionately in the industry for many years.

Date: March 14
