May 30: Screening of Journey: Improvised – Damo Suzuki’s China Tour And Beyond

Subtropical Asia present this screening of their documentary following legendary former Can singer Damo Suzuki on his first-ever China tour in 2018. After the screening, experimental rockers Hei Mu and Dee will perform for revelers at Yuyintang Park.

May 30: Living Room Jam Session

Swing by Le Cafe de Stagiaires this Thursday evening for some very chill vibes. The venue’s living room concept sees them allow all-comers to try their hand at some music, while audience remembers can grab a drink, sit back, relax and chat. Sounds groovy.

Fluxion’s music was born in urban Greece and found its path during the mid ’90s in a city that existed in a state of ‘flux’ like no other in the 20th century. Berlin’s social, historical and political factors all came to bear both consciously and unconsciously on the musicians’ experimenting, while he lived in the city around the turn of the millennium. Head over to 44KW this weekend to catch the Greek DJ spinning techno and ambient beats.

Popasuda welcomes summer with another installment of some wicked sounds from around the world. DJ Skinny Brown will hit the decks for another epic eight hour set with stacks of music spanning genres and continents, all built for the dancehall. Expect Ugandan techno, custom cut reggae and dancehall, the newest GQOM sounds out of Durban, South Africa and tons of bassed up remixes from Brazil to Botswana.

Celebrating the end of the school year, Specters hosts a Hot Trash Prom — an evening of sexually frustrated awkwardness, throwback ’80s and ’90s tunes, and questionable fashion choices. They’ll even have a prom photographer! There will be awards for Prom King And Queen (Or queen and queen and / or king and king, whatevs.) Prizes will also be on offer for worst dressed prom outfits, so wear your most ear-searingly horrendous tuxedo or gown!

Jun 1: Marc Melia Live in Shanghai

Majorca-born musician Marc Melia arrives in China with his first-ever solo album, Music for Prophet, which sees him make use of repetitive looping beats made on gorgeous spacy synthesizers, ostensibly aimed at robot ears. In the works for around five years, Melia made the album on a Prophet synth and accompanied it with an awesome 43-minute video of a cassette tape of Music for Prophet flying into space.
