It's strange living in Shanghai as a foreigner. Here, mundane things from home transform into some kind of magical essence once they appear in Shanghai. Taco Bell is one of those things. At home in the US, it's something you barely think about and probably barely eat at (unless it's very late and/or you are very drunk). Yet, few Americans can admit that frisson of excitement we all experienced once we found out that Taco Bell was coming to Puxi. This Taco Bell is perfectly situated in a good location near Nanjing West Road subway station(s), and is open pretty late to boot. The food is 100 percent authentic in terms of Taco Bell (much less so in terms of actual Mexican food, but who is really expecting that from Taco Bell?)...The decor is decidedly hip and fast casual versus the sometimes smelly and depressing fast food vibe that American Taco Bells have.
